April 28th
The Proclamation Commemorative Ceremony

This is a service to honor April 28, 1253, the day on which Nichiren Shonin recited Odaimoku for the first time at the summit of Mt. Seicho, declaring the beginning of his school and his vow to propagate the Lotus Sutra. All this was based on his proclamation that all Buddhist sects in Japan should be returned into a single form of culmination: the Lotus Sutra, which he mastered through years of training at his worship room at Seichoji Temple, on the south surface of the mountain. His determination never faltered, despite his earlier prediction that preaching the essence of this sutra would inevitably attract hardships and since this day onward, he would experience numerous persecutions.
